The Urban Church Wellness (UCW) partnership is sponsored by Columbia St. Mary’s and the churches of the COGIC Covenant to promote wellness through health education and screening in Milwaukee churches. Milwaukee churches of all denominations are welcome to register as a partner of Urban Church Wellness to collaborate with the membership group and to take advantage of health education, health screening and health promotion activities of the partnership and of Columbia St. Mary’s. COGIC Churches may work together under the leadership of Bishop McClelland in projects that may be specific to their jurisdiction, described in the COGIC Covenant tab.
Urban Church Wellness will make many healthcare services available, including mammography screening, colorectal cancer screening, cooking classes, nutritional education, diabetes education, assistance regarding advance care directives, and development of programs suggested by the health liaison volunteers and the community.
To become a partner, churches are asked to commit:
-To name a person to act as Church Health Liaison (CHL) to collaborate with CSM and partner churches in health promotion.
-To collaborate with UCW programs as appropriate to the interests and needs of the church community.
-To support the Church Health Liaison’s participation in at least half of the meeting dates, education and training events offered by UCW.
